Blurb/Synopsis
Heralds are the most powerful of all angels, secretive and feared, created for a single purpose. Only those most courageous and worthy earn a place within the elite choir, and only by breaking ancient oaths held sacred can the honor be stripped. It's a punishment that hasn't been imposed in over two-thousand years, until a single reckless act sets off a firestorm, threatening to consume all creation.

Rise Hawke never suspected she'd been marked to play a role in the deadly events unfolding in the spiritual realm. Independent and resistant to authority, she isn't thrilled when she meets Dominik, an angel with new wings, an old grudge, and a mysterious agenda he's determined to impose.

Vowing to uncover the secrets kept from her, Rise soon learns that knowing what you are isn't nearly as dangerous as discovering why. Hunted by those who want to destroy her, and controlled by those who would see her fulfill her purpose, she is forced into a brutal battle set in motion long before she was ever born. It soon becomes clear that what one angel will risk to earn the title of Herald, is matched only by what another will do to keep it.

Excerpt

What are you?” she demanded. “What do you want?”
Tyre considered the questions. There was no reason he had to lie to her at this point, and he’d grown tired of the charade anyway. He cocked an eyebrow. “I’m the angel who’s going to save your soul. Again.”
“You’re insane,” Katie whispered and started rummaging through the glove box, her hands shaking as she dumped paperwork and other items all over. Tyre guessed she was looking for something to use as a weapon, so he allowed her to continue; it would earn him a few moments of quiet and nothing in the car could harm him.
He hit the accelerator and tested the steering capabilities. It was almost time for the big finish, and he wanted no mistakes. Tyre started weaving from one lane to another, relishing the adrenaline rush. He laughed until a pair of taillights came up fast on the right. “There might be witnesses.” He turned to Katie. “This could be a problem. Try to act natural, will you?”
“Witnesses?” Katie repeated, looking back and forth between Tyre and the road. The broken yellow lines whipped by so fast they appeared almost solid. She started to cry, but then she, too, spotted the other vehicle. She seized the manual handle controlling the windows and cranked as fast as she could, calling out for assistance.
“Brilliant.” He cast a sideways look to the girl. “Well, there’s no way to avoid them now, is there?” He reached over and grabbed her hand. “Wave. Be polite.” He waggled her wrist, making her hand dance. “Say farewell.”
1. When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to write. Or, more accurately, when I didn’t feel the need to write, the pull. It’s a primal drive, right up there with breathing and sex.

2. What inspires you to write?
Emotion – rage, despair, joy, anything raw and powerful.

3. What is your favorite genre when reading?
I’m open to all genres, but I’ve always gravitated toward Fantasy, especially those epic sword-and-sorcery tales.

4. What inspires you to come up with your characters?
Real people, I suppose. Not that I copy anyone, but everyone has strengths and weaknesses and that’s what I want for my characters.

5. How many books do you have published?
Uprising is my first novel, and I have several short stories included in various anthologies.

6. Do you have more books in the works and if so, could you tell us about them? Crises, the second book in Fires of Providence, will launch later this year. I’m really excited about that, and can’t wait to have it out there for readers! I’m also working on a contemporary novella called ‘Divorce on Lay-a-Way’. I’m hoping to have that out by the holidays. It’s my first attempt at dark humor and might also be my last. *smile*

7. What advice do you have for us?
My advice is…to not take advice from me! I’m just another student of life, fumbling around like everyone else. Seek out those with more wisdom, embrace your talents and trust your instincts.

8. Is there a special place you like to write, and if so, can you tell us?
I sometimes go to a little cemetery not far from my house. It’s quiet, it’s beautiful, and filled with great listeners.

9. What type of music do you like?
It’s all over the place; rock, classic, country. For music with lyrics, it’s more about the voice than the words or style.

10. Please give us your top five favorite authors?
Tough one! Tolkien, Stephen King, Robert Jordan, J.K. Rowling, Dante Alighieri

Silly Q & A
1. What does the color pink remind you of?
That cringe-inducing dress at the end of Pretty in Pink. I never liked that thing, and pink isn’t the best color on redhead’s. 
2. What is your favorite color? Green or blue
3. Favorite comfort food? Chicken and Dumplings is never a bad choice
4. Favorite candy? M&M’s
Dawn Jayne is an Urban and Paranormal Fantasy author from Indianapolis, Indiana USA.
Dawn was an avid reader from a young age, and her desire to write took hold soon thereafter. She loaded up on creative writing classes in school, and posted short stories online to hone her skills - and to make certain she had the thick skin necessary to survive the world of publication!
Uprising is Dawn's first novel, but one that has been in her head for most of her life in one form or another. No matter what job she held - from being a Marine to a mother to a veterinary receptionist - she was always hearing voices and spinning tales in her head. Uprising is a blend of fantasy, spirituality, ancient arts and astrology, all woven together while keeping a foundation in the real world.
Her manuscript was accepted by Time and Tide Publishing in 2012, the first in what will be a three book series. She hopes her story will be a positive contribution to the wonderful Urban Fantasy genre, and wants nothing more than her words to bring enjoyment to readers.
Dawn lives with her family on the Southside of Indianapolis.
