REVIEW: The Maiden's Song by Douglas S. Pierce

Welcome back everybody to Black Words-White Pages!! Sadly, this is the final stop on the blog but not to worry, this is not the end of the author and his debut story!! Today's blog is what everybody has been patiently waiting on, even the author.....And it is my thoughts and review of this story in it's entirety. So, keep on reading to find out what I thought of this book!!!

The Maiden's Song
Book One of The Seeds of Hope
Douglas Pierce

The stranger arched a knowing eyebrow and closed Mouse’s fingers around the flute. “Someday, perhaps, you can return this kindness by giving the gift of music to someone else in their time of need.”Mouse—a fugitive and former stowaway—had no way of knowing that his benefactor was the very man that the Captain of the Hunter’s Ghost was hunting…or how playing music again would lead to a series of impossible choices…“The Enemy comes for you, child. A foe like no other. The night will be long and dark. The dangers will seem too great. But you must find your song, child, even when that seems impossible...”Those dark words by the kumpania’s ancient Seer are Seldy’s first warning that the life she adores—in the only home she’s ever known—is coming to a quick and violent end...The Maiden’s Song is a tale of love and sacrifice of how Mouse and Seldy must endure intertwined journeys of self-discovery while being hunted by an implacable foe who will stop at nothing to claim the power of her secret heritage for himself.

It took me a few hours to collect my thoughts and figure out how I wanted to approach my feelings about this book before I was ready to share my review of this story.

I first off want to add that I was quite intimidated by the length of this book.....My biggest fear was that 759 pages was most likely going make me get really bored with this book very quickly. And being this author's debut book, I was a bit skeptical too. Most books this big I generally avoid because I lose interest in the story after a while. And while the cover is beautiful, it felt kind of bland to me. I felt as if the story wasn't shining through the cover.....But my motto is "Give the book a chance, don't judge it just yet". So with my motto in mind, I got right to reading this book and I realized from the start that boring was NOT the word to use. I also understood the cover better as I continued to read too. I will get into more detail of the story-line in a minute.

The characters were phenomenal!! The story of Seldy and Rondel (Mouse) is completely unforgettable. I felt a royal connection to the characters right off the bat. The author spared no details making sure that we would never forget them and the struggles they suffered within this story. The adventure that Seldy and Rondel went though separately and together really made my heart hurt for them in some parts while in others, I was rooting the characters on.

The story-line was......I still have no words!! This very rarely happens when a story makes me speechless. The feelers within this story were abundant and I felt them all as the words flowed like music from the pages of it. Pierce did a remarkable job keeping me in suspense by switching character POV's. I love it when authors do this because I like to know what is going on with different characters in a story. Sure, one character POV is great but multiple just makes the story that much more intense and interesting. It makes me want to continue to read even if it's to get back to the character and the spot the author left me screaming. And boy did the author leave me thinking "how could you leave it off there!!". lol I was completely addicted by this author's style of writing. I just couldn't help myself....I totally HAD to know what would happen next, which brings me to say that it wasn't long until I finished this book!! I am actually a bit sad to know that this story is over for now and the cliffhanger at the end has so many questions running through my head that I hope they will be answered in the next book. This was a powerful story from beginning to end. This story and it's characters has taken a piece of my heart and hidden it within the pages of this book. I am so glad that I took that plunge into reading this book because this debut author has gained a new follower and I highly recommend this read!!
