That is, if she ever escapes the jar she was buried in.

Felix and Fredricka Parker spend the summer on their Aunt Trish’s farm while their parental units celebrate their anniversary in Paris. With no wifi, their prospects of having a great summer seem less than dismal.

Until they go digging around one day near a creek bed and unearth something that will change their view of the world forever.

This was such a cute story.

The characters were so amazing. I enjoyed getting to know Freddie, Felix, Aunt Trish and Valeria. The kids made this story a real treat to read.

The story-line was clever. Mattern is an absolute genius!! The tale that she twisted into this story kept me entertained from beginning to end and made it such and amazing and fun read with an incredible plot twist that I didn't see coming right away. This is a phenomenal page turner and I highly recommend it.

EXCERPT

CHAPTER ONE-THE CREEK BED

It was day five of what seemed would be a boring and interminable summer.

Felix and Fredericka Parker, 13 and 14 year olds born just 13 months apart (Fredericka, aka “Freddie” would never let Felix forget who was the oldest) were walking along a creek bed on their Aunt Trish’s farm. Off in the distance they could see one of her handymen, Herb, plowing a field with a tractor.

“She has over 90 acres,” they said, Felix quoted with a bitter edge to his voice, “ No one for miles, you can have fun exploring nature they said!”

“So far I think nature is having a lot more fun exploring ME!” Freddie said grumpily, swatting way what had to be the largest horsefly she’d ever seen. She’d always thought she was a nature lover, even though she and Felix had been raised as suburbanites and their entire experience had been in picnicking in well manicured parks with merry-go-rounds , or “camping” at the biggest and swankiest lodge at Big Meadows with all the amenities including room service.

“I just CAN’T,” Felix continued, kicking at pebbles as they walked along. The Summer heat in Virginia was relentless, and they could feel the sweat trickling down their necks.

Aunt Trish didn’t have indoor conditioning but since her double decker farmhouse was built into the side of a hill on one side and had ceiling fans, it remained shadowy and cool indoors. She’d suggested they take a walk and enjoy the open air and sunshine.

But the open air smelled like cow patties when they were downwind of the herd, and the Parker kids didn’t like THAT either.

“We can at least wade in the stream,” Freddie sighed, kicking off her Crocs and mincing across the

Pebbles that the creek had tossed up, “Good way to cool off !

Remember what Aunt Trish said that Granny Parker always said, “When you are cool your whole body is cool!”

🔬🔬🔬 REVIEW: Longevity Sequence Z by P Mattern 🔬🔬🔬

Welcome back to Black Words-White Pages!! This week I am sharing my review to Longevity Sequence Z by P Mattern!! So let's dive right into it!!!

Longevity Sequence Z
by P Mattern
Published by CHBB
Cover artist: CD Gorri

Rory McAllister and Ben Lucas are two men living the New American Dream. Doctors and best of friends, they begin a fateful collaboration targeting both a cure for degenerative diseases of old age and a search for a genetically engineered ‘Fountain of Youth’ in the form of a serum to regenerate stem cells.

Occupied with their “day jobs” at the local university hospital, Rory as an Obstetrical Surgeon and Ben as Assistant Head of Research and Development. They spend their weekends at Ben’s private makeshift lab in relentless pursuit of the Holy Grail of Medicine:

The Nobel Prize.

The pressure they are under intensifies when Millie, Rory’s widowed mother, Miz Millie, is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Grappling with moral and ethical questions, both young doctors are in a race against time, and other doctors and research scientists globally involved in the same field of research.

The clock is ticking...

Both Rory and Ben are on the precipice of experiencing firsthand the truth of the old adage

“If God wants to punish you…He gives you what you ask for”!

$2.99 or

Like most of the books I have purchased and read by this author, this book has kept me entertained from beginning to end.

The characters in this story were amazing. I loved reading about Rory and Miz Millie. Miz Millie was a hoot to read and get to know.

The story-line was incredible. Mattern knows how to capture her audience and keep us craving for more. She added a bit of comedy, sass and some shocking scenes that made me say OMG or laugh out loud. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it!!

EXCERPT

On one hand Rory was ecstatic, on the other hand he wondered  how far what could only be interpreted as this ‘age reversal process’  would go. Was there even a stopping point? Would she settle in at her “prime”, and have the physical health of an average 35 year old?

Or would she at some point start aging again, sliding back toward her late sixties?

It did not do any good to remind himself that it was too late now. To stop giving her the injections meant that he was condemning Miz Millie to the horrid disease that threatened to take not only what was left of her vitality but also her mind.

Parkinson’s was a damn mean disease.

He knew that he had to save her. Whatever happened, he refused to lose her. Even if the cocktail never won FDA approval, he would keep formulating it and injecting it as long as she needed it.

He’d made a promise to himself a long time ago as a boy, when she’d been widowed, that he would always protect her.

He was not about to break that promise now.

LEVIATHAN
by William Joseph
Published by CHBB Publishing

Leviathan is a haunting story in which a seemingly ordinary man, Cain, embarks on a perilous spiritual journey during the end of days. With nothing but his faith as he heads into the unknown, Cain must face living nightmares and horrifying creatures alike, while pushing himself to get to the coast of Oregon to confront an unknown fate.

As I sit here trying to put my thoughts together for this review, I ponder about what I read. What would it look like when the end of the world comes? Read this book and then tell me what you end up thinking about.

The characters are amazing. Following and getting to see everything through Cain's eyes kept me intrigued and interested to learn more about his journey and the different characters that he would stumble across. He was a very strong character that never lost his hope no matter how bad things got.

The story-line is enchanting and addicting and I was left pondering many things while reading the story. I was on the edge of my seat at times, rooting for the character and some times I found chills run up and down my arms. This story was so very well written and a very fast paced story with a roller-coaster ride of climatic scenes. This is an awesome story and I highly recommend it!!

☠️☠️☠️ REVIEW: American Handmaidens by P Mattern ☠️☠️☠️

Welcome back to the final week of November with P Mattern and her new release, American Handmaidens!! Today, I am going to share with you all my review!! So without further adieu, let's get started....

American Handmaidens

Would you bury it as deeply as it would go

Or talk about it as soon as you were able to anyone willing to listen?

I was the sister who buried it.

Lyn was the sister who refused to.

In the end, it cost her everything.

Some secrets are too terrible to keep.

Well, I am not sure exactly what I can say as I write up this review. It truly hit on a more personal level for me.

Learning about the lives of Patricia and Lyn brought back many things that happened to me as a child and in adulthood. The relationship with my dad and the different stepmoms that I had made life hard and as I got older so did other relationships with other people, especially men in particular. I was physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually abused in many different forms of life that made me hate people and lose hope and my faith in God in one fail swoop. I was a complete mess and it took many people to bring me back to what I have become today.

This story was well written and it didn't cause me to relive those parts of my life that I was abused because her story was different from mine. But it did bring out the feelers and made me feel so sad or angry at times for the characters. As I read this story, I feel as if I wasn't alone and it wasn't just me that went through a rough life. Seeing her feelings poured out into the pages of this book showed me that not everyone's life is full of rainbows and unicorns no matter what time frame you were born in or how old you are. It fills my heart to know that I have had the chance to get to know this author on a more personal level just by reading this story. I truly thank this author for sharing with the world her testimony. I highly recommend this read!!
