Would you bury it as deeply as it would go

Or talk about it as soon as you were able to anyone willing to listen?

I was the sister who buried it.

Lyn was the sister who refused to.

In the end, it cost her everything.

Some secrets are too terrible to keep.

Well, I am not sure exactly what I can say as I write up this review. It truly hit on a more personal level for me.

Learning about the lives of Patricia and Lyn brought back many things that happened to me as a child and in adulthood. The relationship with my dad and the different stepmoms that I had made life hard and as I got older so did other relationships with other people, especially men in particular. I was physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually abused in many different forms of life that made me hate people and lose hope and my faith in God in one fail swoop. I was a complete mess and it took many people to bring me back to what I have become today.

This story was well written and it didn't cause me to relive those parts of my life that I was abused because her story was different from mine. But it did bring out the feelers and made me feel so sad or angry at times for the characters. As I read this story, I feel as if I wasn't alone and it wasn't just me that went through a rough life. Seeing her feelings poured out into the pages of this book showed me that not everyone's life is full of rainbows and unicorns no matter what time frame you were born in or how old you are. It fills my heart to know that I have had the chance to get to know this author on a more personal level just by reading this story. I truly thank this author for sharing with the world her testimony. I highly recommend this read!!

CHAPTER ONE-BOXING DAY

I am excited. My father, a tall, handsome WWII vet who returned home to land a government job is taking his old boxing gloves out of the top of the hall closet.

He tells my sister and I that he used to box in the army, and did pretty well at it. I am excited because in the post war era boxing is on TV every Friday and it looks like fun, dancing around and throwing punches as well as blocking them.

He gets down the slightly dusty boxes and proceeds to lace up the smaller of the pair on me. I feel powerful just having the leather gloves hanging from my spindly arms.

I am six years old, my younger sister Lyn is three and a half, and looks on with wide cornflower blue eyes. She is beautiful, like a seraphim, with perfect blonde corkscrew curls and dimples.

I am the plain sister, the one strangers never notice. My grandmother on my mother’s side notices this, takes me aside, and tells me not to worry because I am’ distinguished looking.’

My father has finished lacing his own gloves on, and he gives my sister a bell to ring to signal the first round as we square off in opposite corners of the living room.

My entire body thrums with excitement. This is an unprecedented special event. I  am particularly impressed by the fact that my father makes it clear that he WANTS me to take a shot at him and land some punches.

I am thinking this is very cool.

My father has taken off his shirt. He is a mechanical engineer and works on huge machines at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington D.C. He is very muscular, with well developed biceps and pecs, and he looks excited too as he gives my sister a nod to ring the bell for the first round.

I run to the center, swinging haphazardly for all I am worth. My father laughs and easily blocks my punches. I laugh too.

And then he moves in more closely and starts punching me, and I stop laughing.

His first punch catches me in the jaw and knocks my head back. I am startled, and drop my gloves so that his next punch also lands cleanly on my forehead.

I feel dizzy. He doesn’t stop but begins punching me in the chest and stomach. The stomach punch knocks the breath out of me, and I fall backwards on my rear end on the carpet.

I hear my sister scream as I shake my head. Just like in the cartoons, I think I see rotating circles with birdies flying around. I look up through my disoriented haze and see that my sister has jumped up on my father’s back, and she is still screaming.

“STOP! STOP DADDY!YOU’RE KILLING HER!”

My father looks irritated. He is sweating and breathing very heavily. With a disgusted look on his face, he jerks me to my feet and removes my gloves, and as he does that he looks me in the eye.

“Remember this,” he says, ”Remember that you better always do as I say because you can never beat me. Do you understand me Trish?”

I nod, humiliated. I never landed one punch. I believe him.

WOW, that a powerful excerpt and has made me curious to read more!! Let us know in the comments about how excited you are for this release!! It releases on 11.19.2020!!

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: 13 Ways to Midnight by Rue Volley

13 Ways to Midnight
Book 3
Rue Volley

For seventeen-year-old Echo Midnight Navarri life in Port Royal is calm and peaceful.
Compliant. Happy. Safe.
But somethings amiss.
Echo can feel it in her bones, and as the visions intensify, she begins to dig for the truth that only she can uncover.
Whispers on the wind speak of a dark memory spell that has distorted reality.
This ancient evil demands a sacrifice.
But who's to blame?
And who will pay the ultimate price?

Be careful what you WITCH for.
Because sometimes it isn't what you really wanted at all.

Be careful what you WITCH for.....

What an amazing and wild journey this author has taken us on this time.

The characters in this story were phenomenal. Echo is such a strong character. She went through a lot of heartache and hardship in this story. Echo's feelings seem to just flow off of the pages and into my heart as I continued to read this story. I could completely connect with this character and what she went through. I am also still in love with the rest of the characters as well.

The story-line was incredible and completely mind blowing. This author took us all on a fantastic ride that I was not expecting. This story crossed new bounds in this author's style of writing and I loved every single minute of it. This is a twisted and fun read that left my heart and mouth open. I was mesmerized by all the events that went on. This is a magical story and I highly recommend it but I do suggest reading books 1 and 2 before reading this story to understand what happens during this story.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ W/REVIEW: 13 Ways to Midnight by Rue Volley

13 Ways to Midnight
The Midnight Saga #2
Rue Volley

Once upon a time, there was a girl who didn't believe in monsters.
Until now.

Echo Midnight Navarri has reached her seventeenth birthday—alone.
It's been well over a year since her twin, Midnight, slipped from her hand into a ravine shrouded in blue mist deep in the Brazilian jungle.
The locals refer it to as the veil.
Echo believes it is a nightmare.
One that she can't seem to escape.

Her parents, world-famous archaeologists, Peter and Alice Navarri, stayed behind after sending Echo to live with her aunt in a rainy little town at the edge of the world known as Port Royal.
The search goes on, but the mystery remains.

Echo continues to experience visions as the details of the events leading up to that fateful night start to reveal themselves to her.
Piece by piece, bit by bit.
Exposing the truth and forcing in the light where once there was only darkness.

Despite everything, she has managed to make friends, even a new boy, by the name of Asher Tiberious Westbrook the third, a self-proclaimed warlock who doesn't mind that Echo tends to shy away from anyone who wants to be close to her.
But she fears intimacy after losing her sister.
Especially with him.
Not Asher Westbrook.
Thorn Vega.
A boy whose terrifying secrets may outweigh her own.

I want to start out this review by saying that I have followed this author for many years now and have noticed a significant improvement in her writing and the way she captures her audience and keeps us craving more. And with that being said......

MY THOUGHTS

WOW...

I am completely and utterly speechless after reading this book!! I literally have no words for what I have read...Even though I may have laughed, got my heart broken, snot cried, and was left with one heck of a cliffhanger, I must says this author is a complete genus! This author kept me on the edge of my seat and turning each page from beginning to end.

The characters are phenomenal. I still am in love with them and am torn between Thorn and Ash on who I love more. My heart completely aches for Echo in this story. I feel a real connection with this character. Her emotions seemed to reel me in as the words flowed off of the pages and I just wished that I could pull her out of the book and hug her.

The story-line is POWERFUL. The author made me feel as if I was a part of the story, and not like watching a movie, but as if I was actually living the story inside the book. The feelers are so very raw and felt so very real. So much sadness, heartache, and trauma happened in this story, and yet I couldn't help but want to keep reading to find out more. This is the very first story that I have read that has made me cry so hard for the characters that live inside a book and I must say it is by far my favorite read for 2017.

And if you love a fantastic love story that will make you laugh, cry, and rip your heart out, then this story is for you. I highly recommend it.

START WITH BOOK 1

13 Ways to Midnight
The Midnight Saga #1

You'll never miss the sunlight until it's gone.

Sixteen-year-old Echo Navarri, daughter of world-famous archaeologists, Alice and Peter Navarri, had spent her life traveling from one expedition to the next as her parents unearthed lost civilizations.

On their thirteenth dig, Midnight, Echo's twin sister, disappears without a trace. This prompts a year-long search that leaves the family nearly broken. In an attempt to find some closure they reluctantly host a mock funeral for Midnight without ever recovering her remains.

Nearing the one year anniversary of Midnight's assumed death, Echo is sent to live with her eccentric Aunt Luna who is the caretaker of the centuries old Navarri Estate in Port Royal, Maine.

Echo attempts to settle into her new life in Port Royal, but soon finds that she's destined for adventure as the mystery of her family's history, the sunless town, and its oddly intriguing people teeter on the supernatural.

So mystical, magical, mysterious and just plain phenomenal!!! I actually finished this story within 24 hours. This book had so many feelers within its pages. I never knew when I was going to laugh, cry, or smile as I turned each fantastic page. I was so enchanted by this story and I could literally feel every single feeling that was happening with the character, Echo, and I could feel her emotions seep out of the pages, the more I read. Echo was such as amazing character and had absolutely no clue what was going on around her. Thorn was also an incredible character and so very complex. I loved how the author would keep me in suspense and in the dark until the moment was right to allow me to know what the character knew and kept me guessing from beginning to end. So many secrets and so many awesome twists and turns within the pages of this book made it such a remarkable read. This is by far my favorite read that this author has brought forth yet. I am so ready to read more of Echo and Thorn and see where exactly this author will take me....GIVE ME MORE!!
